The core of Avarte’s collection are the classics designed by the company’s principal designer,Yrjo Kukkapuro in the 1960’s,for example Karuselli,Remmi,Ateljee and Funktus chairs. One of Kukkapuro’s favourite sayings,“Does it make any sense to design a chair which is not good to sit on.”describes Avarte’s love for ergonomic furniture.Kukkapuro has also states that a designer should be an artist,a doctor and an engineer in the same time.Kukkapuro’s timeless pieces are displayed for example in New York MoMA’s and London Victoria and Albert Museum’s permanent collections.Today,Avarte collaborates also with other leading designers like Mikko Paakkanen,the designer of the much praised Nietos-chair,who was nominated as the Young Designer of the year 2006. One of the outstanding contemporary design masters, whose works have been permanently collected 14 times by institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, and remain fresh and relevant to this day.
